Winston Swift Boyer
Winston Swift Boyer’s photographs often engage the history of painting through lighting, composition, and subject matter. As our expectations from the two mediums collide and crumble, our experience of the image, elevated and freed, hovers between the reality of ordinary perception and the sur-reality of memory, experience, knowledge, and imagination.
Boyer has great breadth of talent as an artist, and his several series have distinct sensibilities and merits.
The artist’s first solo exhibition with Trident Gallery will be on view June 4–26, showing the Ocean Series of large-scale images of ocean horizons which explicitly engage Mark Rothko’s famous paintings of “multiforms.”
